Madonna Studies

Story

The subject of the Madonna and Child presented Raphael with the constant challenge of finding new variations on the theme. Some of the studies were not used as a basis for his paintings until years later. This drawing in red chalk shows several variations on the same page. In the centre is the study for the Madonna Alba, while the sketch above was used later for the Madonna della Sedia.
